The trainings will take place in collaboration with the New York State AHPERD organization at their annual conference on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in Verona, New York. The conference will feature presentations by:
- Think.Eat.Play. Creator and Program Director, Karen Sossin, MS, CDN, on the topics of sports nutrition and Female Athlete Triad – a syndrome which includes insufficient caloric intake leading to menstrual disturbances which can weaken bones and result in serious health and performance complications. Juliet Zuercher, RD, faculty member, Timberline Knolls Clinical Development Institute, will also be taking part in this discussion.
- Healthy Bodies creator and author, Kathy Kater, LCSW, the foundation for promoting healthy weight—new evidence regarding weight-focused approaches and the call for promoting health instead of size in children and teens; and
- Mental Fitness, Inc. founder and CEO, Robyn Hussa Farrell, MFA, E-RYT, on the topic of stress management: implementing mindfulness and arts based coping strategies.
The presentations are suitable for NYS AHPERD registered conference attendees and is designed for classroom teachers, health and physical educators, coaches, administrators, school physicians, athletes, parents, school nurses and health professionals.
