Abbott government makes appointment

Canberra 23 February 2015. The Government has appointed Ms Louise McSorley the Acting Director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency for a period of 12 months.

Ms McSorley, a senior executive in the Department of Employment, will serve in the position from March 2015, and the Government will consider longer term arrangements during this time.

“Ms McSorley is a very accomplished Public Servant, and I’m confident she will bring great expertise and experience to the role,” Minister for Employment Senator Abetz said.

“She has experience in the fields of international relations, workplace relations policy, work health and safety policy, and employment. As a senior officer in the Department of Employment, she has demonstrated herself to be highly capable.

“Her most recent appointment was at the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she worked across the education and science sectors to deepen bilateral relations and engagement in education.”

Ms McSorley is currently studying a Masters of Gender and Development at the Australian National University and has legal qualifications.

The Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women, Senator Michaelia Cash said the Government is looking forward to working with Ms McSorley in this important role.

“It is also important to again recognise and pay tribute to the outstanding work of the outgoing Director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, Ms Helen Conway,” Senator Cash concluded.
