Jeff Bartel notes that nine of the top ten leisure destinations on the survey all saw a decrease in cost of a return ticket. Kenya, which held the tenth spot, was the only location on the list to see a slight increase, which may be causing the country to lose out on a number of travelers. Turkey, Malaysia, Vietnam and Ecuador followed Tanzania in the rankings. Ticket prices to Ecuador, which landed fifth on the list, saw a 38 percent increase in booking, while ticket prices dropped 17 percent in the first half of 2013.
Tanzania is an enticing location, agrees Jeff Bartel, attracting tourists with its popular Mount Kilimanjaro. Jeff Bartel notes that the country led the scoreboard with a bookings rise of 49 percent and an airfare drop of six percent. From the Serengeti to Ngorongoro to Zanzibar, visitors are offered the greatest hits list of Africa.
The Arusha Coffee Lodge in Tanzania also just debuted on the Travel + Leisure World's Best List, in the category of Top Lodges and Resorts in Africa and the Middle East. The Lodge embodies the area's bygone coffee rituals and is part of the bespoke Elewana Collection in East Africa. The soothing locale is nestled in on the largest coffee plantations in Tanzania, at the base of the volcanic Mount Meru. Visitors are exposed to the invigoration, historic coffee rituals of the region's past, all while having an aromatic and sensory experience in a spacious loft designed to fit the style of the original owner's 20th century home.
Jeff Bartel agrees that many travelers are not only taking advantage of low airfare prices to exotic locations, but they are also making the most of the time they spend there. The survey reports that, for example, people heading out to Ecuador typically travel to the Galapagos Islands during their visit. The Galapagos Islands are an ideal excursion and are famous for their diversely unique wildlife. Those journeying to Tanzania usually venture over to the Serengeti and the beaches of Zanzibar. The survey marked prices from over 450 airlines around the world, as well as current rates for hotels, car rentals, vacation spots and tours.
