SYLMAR, CA, October 10, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Just a few weeks ago ARS, a leading residential heating and air conditioning company, received a call from a woman explaining how her friends, the Eckors in Sylmar, Calif., were in desperate need of a new HVAC unit. ARS representatives quickly decided that the Eckors were more than deserving of the new system after hearing their story. Don Eckor is a Vietnam Veteran and former LAPD SWAT member, who now lives on a fixed income. Dedicated to serving veterans, ARS immediately set the wheels in motion to help the Eckors and a new HVAC system was installed today at the Eckors' home.

ARS partnered with Rheem Manufacturing, and both are donating their products and services to the Eckors. The new HVAC system from Rheem Manufacturing that was installed in the Eckors' home today will help to lower energy costs, keep the home cool and comfortable in the summer, warm in the winter, and improve air quality inside the home. Poorly maintained or out-of-date air conditioning units can lead to a number of problems in the home, including temperature inconsistencies, unclean indoor air, higher energy bill costs, and potentially expensive repairs from the system working overtime. ARS donated their time to the couple by installing the complete three-ton system at no charge.

Once the Eckors' 20-year-old unit stopped working, they resorted to carrying a space heater from room to room in the winters. During the hot summers where temperatures reached 100 degrees, they kept their windows and doors open in hopes of letting in some summer breeze. Instead, a rattlesnake traveled inside the house and bit the couple's dog. The Eckors' friend reached out to ARS hoping that someone could help her friends in need.

"Giving back to the community is engrained in ARS' culture," said John Butler, general manager, ARS. We are thrilled to give them an opportunity to stay warm this winter and save money in the process.
