Christian Fanning was a standout kicker at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego. He was named the San Diego Section Player of the Week in November 2011, and won a TKS Combine High School Field Goal competition in February 2012. Coaches who have seen the five-foot-eleven, 180 pound Christian Fanning in action have consistently been impressed with his abilities. "Christian is a very solid kicker," one coach said. "He gets the ball up quickly and has excellent height on his kicks...he can easily kick at the D I level."
Christian Fanning graduated from Cathedral Catholic High School in 2013. During his senior season he earned first team All-Eastern League honors, and as a senior he made eight of eleven field goal attempts. He also converted 37-of-40 point after touchdown attempts.
Christian Fanning showed great leg strength and accuracy as a high school kicker. During his junior season he made seven of nine field goals, and his longest was for forty yards. He made thirty of thirty-four extra point attempts. His team was 12-1 that year. As a senior, Christian Fanning's longest field goal was fifty-one yards. He also kicked field goals from the forty-five and forty-three yard range.
Like all ambitious athletes, Christian Fanning is motivated to keep getting better and better. Part of his training during his high school years is the coaching he received at The Kicking System (TKS), a kicking academy in his hometown of San Diego. "Over the course of the last few years, TKS has had the honor of working with Christian Fanning, the next kicker to come out of powerhouse Cathedral Catholic High School," a TKS coach blogged during a 2012 training session. "Christian, who has been working on his field goals from the ground, hit a few 50 yard kicks. Still working on his overall contact, we proceeded to work on [the] depth of his plant foot, [the] angle of his kicking foot, and staying more straight up to keep his hips in line and square. Still not quite consistent, Christian managed to hit a few long ones that show his overall strength. We are...thankful for his loyalty, as Christian has been working with TKS since his Pop Warner days at Torrey Pines Pop Warner."
Christian Fanning knows he is very fortunate to be in the position he is in. Over a six year period he donated 120 hours of his time to Teen Volunteers in Action (TVIA), a philanthropic organization in San Diego. From middle school through high school, he was a member of TVIA's Leadership Council.
Christian Fanning is confident he can take his game to the next level and will continue to work hard to achieve his goals.
