(PRLEAP.COM) As a career college in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Technical Institute is highly attuned to the needs of students who learn by doing. To highlight some of the main characteristics of students who learn best in experiential environments, PTI has published an infographic on the unique traits of tactile learners. This includes the tendency to draw pictures to help process information, the need for frequent breaks in an activity, and remembering more information by physically performing a task.

While all people benefit from different styles of learning, they will usually exhibit a preference for just one or a couple learning styles. Many kinesthetic learners are attracted to PTI for its hands-on training format and practical education programs. Those individuals learn best when using certain study techniques and when working to master highly visual or physical skills.

Kinesthetic learners may find it difficult to study for extended periods of time, so they should break up reading sessions with blocks of a physical activity, such as doodling, baking, or walking. Interaction with others may also help inject some action into study sessions, so working in groups to learn new material is a good idea for tactile learners. Ideally, though, the subject itself should be hands-on, featuring lab classes and interactive assignments. This is style of education in the PTI learning environment for its 30+ certificate and degree programs in multimedia web design, computer aided drafting, information technology, computer programming, therapeutic massage, graphic design, culinary arts and more.

Also illustrated in the infographic is the experiential learning environment that PTI employs in its career programs. This involves a high degree of activity so that students can experience first-hand how to perform a task. Students then share their results with their peers and instructors, enabling them to better analyze their work and find new ways to improve upon it. Afterward, students are ready to apply their skills in a real-world environment, such as on an internship or a clinical rotation, which can translate into performing tasks professionally in their career.
