BOSTON, Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As the launch date for 4G services in China draws closer, Chinese consumer attitudes towards 4G technology are seemingly not where operators would like them to be.  In a new report from the Wireless Devices Lab (WDL) Service at Strategy Analytics, "Chinese Smartphone Owners Profile 2013", more than 80 percent of respondents were not satisfied with their current mobile network speed.  Moreover, less than 10 percent indicated they would pay for a 4G network.

"The low trust that Chinese consumers have with their mobile service providers is the main reason for lack of willingness to pay for 4G networks," commented Alvin Wu, report author and analyst at Strategy Analytics' Wireless Device Lab.  "Dissatisfaction with their existing 3G network speed has contributed to the negative expectations that consumers have with the 4G network," added Wu.

As 4G/LTE capability penetrates into more handsets at lower price points, a general emphasis on faster connectivity and better coverage is likely to resonate most strongly.  "Chinese operators need to devote more effort on providing previously promised services and improve Chinese consumers' level of satisfaction," continued Wu.

The "Chinese Smartphone Owners Profile 2013"report presents the findings of Strategy Analytics' latest consumer study in China.  Investigating the needs and behaviors of Chinese smartphone users, key findings of this study include smartphone purchase priorities, purchase influencers, consumer attitudes towards dual-SIM smartphones, pre-paid versus post-paid plans, and innovative and future smartphone features and services.
