Online Sportsbooks - Is Mobile or Desktop Play Better

There is plenty of excitement to be had at an online sportsbook whether you play on a desktop or use a mobile device. However, there are differences between the playing experience.

Originally, players did not have an option. They had to use a desktop to access online sports betting. This meant that they did not have a lot of flexibility about where or when they could bet. However, since the smartphone industry took off, big-name brands such as Unibet have developed their sports betting content to be compatible with mobile devices.

So, is it better to bet using a desktop or a mobile device? To a certain extent, the answer depends on personal choice. However, there are some positives and negatives to take into account.

Advantages and disadvantages of betting on a desktop

There are three major advantages to betting on sports using a desktop.

  • The graphics and images are bigger and often easier to define. This is a major positive if you want to get the full experience, especially if you are watching live sports content like horse racing.

  • Some online sportsbooks provide more deposit and withdrawal options on their desktop site. This could be important if you want to use a specific deposit method that is not available on mobile.

  • You will often find that you have access to more betting options if you use the desktop version of a sportsbook. This may not be a problem if the sports you love to bet on are included in the mobile version but it's still worth considering.

There is only one real disadvantage of using a desktop to bet online.

  • You do not have a lot of flexibility if you need to have access to a desktop to bet. If you do not have this access, you need to use a mobile device instead.

Advantages and disadvantages of using a sportsbook on a mobile device

The number of people who own a smartphone in Australia is high and continues to increase. According to Statista, in 2016, 66% of the population owned a smartphone. This figure is expected to reach 74.5% by 2022.

With these figures in mind, it's not surprising that many people chose to bet on sports using a mobile device. There are both advantages and disadvantages to doing this. The advantages are:

  • You can bet on sports wherever you are. You do not need access to a desktop.

  • You always have access to your favourite sports betting content at the end of your fingertips. This means that you can visit the sportsbook at any time of day.

  • Many online sportsbooks have apps available so it's easy to place a bet by simply tapping the screen a couple of times and entering your login details.

There are also disadvantages including:

  • You need a WiFi connection to bet as using mobile data can be costly. If you do not have a decent connection, you may not be able to access the betting content.

As you can see, there are positives and negatives to using a mobile device to bet at an online sportsbook, just as there are to using a desktop.

The choice of which one you should use will depend on your personal preference, based on the pros and cons. Of course, you may also decide to use both options depending on where and when you are betting.
