Be Your Brand’s Superhero

E-mail Print PDF

Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!

image You may recognize that from Superman, or at least the very beginnings of the superhero. Did you know Superman originally couldn’t fly? Hence the “leap tall buildings” part of the slogan – he was merely able to jump super high and it eventually turned into him flying everywhere.

For this blog’s purposes we’ll pretend Superman never got that ability. How can you be like that superhero that battled super villians but still kept his humble humanity? Let’s see how you can be Superman for your customers.

Faster than a Speeding Bullet

While Superman is incredibly overpowered almost to the point of being boring, teleportation isn’t one of his powers. He still has to make his way across town like the rest of us (well, sort of) and can’t just materialize where he wants to go. Luckily for him, he’s faster than a speeding bullet, which is pretty fast.

When your customers have a problem, they don’t want you to hang around and take it slowly. However, they also don’t expect you to instantaneously fix it like you just teleported to the answer. It would be nice, sure, but it’s not realistic.

Simply by going as fast as you can to amend their issue you’re being their Superman. Don’t go so fast you mess something else up, but don’t dawdle. They’ll appreciate your speed.

More Powerful than a Locomotive

If one of your customers or clients emails you or posts on your Facebook page that they have a suggestion, they don’t want a “I don’t know” or “Sorry but we’re powerless to do anything” answer back. They want to feel like their favorite brand will listen to their needs and can make their lives easier.

Obviously you can’t do everything – it’s impossible. Eventually you will actually run into a request you can’t fulfill. However, as long as you seem like you’re really listening to what your fans are saying and take them seriously, they’ll keep up their love of your brand.

Able to Leap Tall Buildings in a Single Bound

Now again Superman originally couldn’t fly; he could jump like a flea, but he was still bound by gravity, which made him human and relatable. And that’s all your fans and customers can expect from you – to be human and relatable.

What do I mean? The public knows the person behind your PR and social media is just a human, no matter if you’re behind a mom & pop or a huge conglomerate. They don’t want to feel like they’re a fan of a company that’s a soulless corporation – they want to know the human behind the keyboard or phone call.

So the more humanity you show to your customers and fans the better. Go the extra step and leap that building to win each and every fan over. While Superman does often save whole airplanes and buildings full of people, sometimes he goes out of his way to save one person. Be each of your fans’ Superman and your PR efforts will never fail.

What other superheroes can you emulate for your PR efforts?
