NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Screen Media Films is proud to celebrate National Pit Bull Awareness Day on October 26th with the launch of the documentary BEYOND THE MYTH on the free, ad-supported Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service throughout the month of October. Libby R. Sherrill's must-see film for all dog lovers strips away the preconceived notions about pit bulls and delves into the significant impact that the breed specific laws have on families. The link to view BEYOND THE MYTH can be found here: www.hulu.com/beyond-the-myth.

BEYOND THE MYTH uncovers the reasons behind the negative public perception of 'pit bull' type dogs, which has resulted in cities across the U.S. enacting breed specific legislation (BSL) against them and their owners. Unfairly known as violent killers, pit bulls have suffered from the stigma of negative media coverage that has led to city-wide bands across the country.  This breed-specific legislation has torn pets away from families, and killed thousands of innocent dogs across the country.  The film delves into both sides of the discussion and shows the devastating effects these laws can have on dogs and people.

Breed Specific Legislation exists at many different levels and is far reaching into communities and cities across the U.S. and is legal in all but twelve states.   In states where these laws exist, legislatures have the power to add ANY BREED and mixes of breeds to the list.   Therefore, anyone, who has a dog could potentially be effected. BSL puts our civil liberties are at stake, and BEYOND THE MYTH will show you why.
