Toshiba to Participate in Myanmar's Japan Festival 2014

YANGON, Myanmar--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte., Ltd., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Toshiba Corporation, today announced that its branch office in Yangon will be participating at Japan Festival 2014, which is held from February 7th to 10th at Tatmadaw Hall in Yangon. The Japan Festival is organised by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO-Yangon), and this year will be the third year that Toshiba will participate.

Operating since May 2013, Toshiba Asia Pacific’s branch office in Yangon was established to further enhance contribution in Myanmar, by exploring business opportunities and promote in areas including social infrastructure such as power generation and distribution, healthcare systems and consumer products. Toshiba has sold its home appliances in Myanmar from its base in Singapore since the 1980s, and supplied hydroelectric equipment for the Sedawgyi hydroelectric power plant in 1985.

In addition, Toshiba Corporation was awarded on September 2013 to supply air navigation systems to three major airports; Nyaung U, Heho, and Thandwe after concluding an agreement with the Department of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transport, Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the "Project for Improvement of Nationwide Airport Safety and Security” together with Sumitomo Corporation, NEC Group, Toshiba, and Morita.

Apart from featuring Toshiba’s progress in Myanmar, Toshiba’s home appliances and laptops will also be displayed and sold at a special discount at Japan Festival 2014.

Since Myanmar’s economy is expected to grow with business-friendly laws and financial reforms underway, Toshiba is responding to the need for broad investments to support capacity building and infrastructure development required for economic growth.
