SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--eHarmony® today announced it has completed the first phase of a refresh of its entire IT infrastructure. The new architecture was built to accommodate and facilitate increasing subscriber numbers, traffic from mobile users as well as growing levels of communication and engagement between matches.

Among the changes to the IT infrastructure is an at least 40 percent reduction in the number of physical servers required to manage massive amounts of big data, and rapid growth, while maintaining a very high service-level agreement (SLA) to our members with fast response times across all platforms. The reduction includes the adoption of a private cloud infrastructure, which leverages cutting-edge server blade technology to streamline data centers, reduce complexity, and improve server utilization through virtualization. By moving to a private cloud and virtualized computing model, eHarmony will increase efficiencies and storage while decreasing capital and operational costs.

The new IT infrastructure also supports advanced data analytics to enable eHarmony to provide ever better matches for its subscribers. The data analytics infrastructure includes a data lake solution based on Hadoop 2.0 architecture, which supports multi-tenancy and enterprise security, along with multiple visualization tools such as Microstrategy.

“With this infrastructure refresh, we gain a competitive advantage in the market, leveraging a laser focus on data that drives the growth of the company,” said Thod Nguyen, CTO, eHarmony. “The volume and complexity of the data being managed requires a constant evolution of the IT infrastructure and we believe we have deployed one of the most cutting edge architectures in the industry.”

The Infrastructure effort aligns with the company’s engineering mission to evolve eHarmony by:

  • Driving innovation
  • Managing and extracting business value from its Big Data
  • Implementing state-of-the-art technologies
  • Building best-in-class software and systems

Nguyen continued, “With this refresh, our secured enterprise infrastructure optimally and efficiently supports our business.”
