LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Earth Accounting, a California Benefit Corporation, has announced the development of EarthTouch, a smartphone application that allows consumers to scan a bar code and get complete environmental and sustainability information about a product. This includes data about toxic ingredients, child labor, use of renewable energy, and reduced waste stream. No other app plans to cover as wide a range of concerns or allows user participation, full transparency, and personalized preferences.

EarthTouchwill cover the widest possible array of products, meaning a shopper can use it throughout the store - in the food aisles, in the cleaning-products aisle, in the cosmetics aisle, even the pet food and clothing sections.

“As we enter into the holiday shopping season, it’s important to think about the impact our purchasing choices have all year long - on our health, our families, our economy, and on the planet,” said Jeremy Bloom, Earth Accounting Media Director. “EarthTouch will make it easy for you to make smarter, greener choices.”

“More than 15 percent of the population has already said they want this information so they can make better choices,” says Earth Accounting founder and CEO Dr. Bruce Hector. “Consumers do want more information about the environmental and social impact of their purchases. Producers who provide this vital eco-data will gain a market edge. We won’t need governments to set the sustainability goals - with EarthTouch, our combined consumer actions will move the market toward sustainability.”

Earth Accounting has formed a unique information co-operative - the Alliance for Consumer Empowerment and Sustainability (ACES). A wide range of ecolabel groups, environmental organizations and government entities have committed to contributing data to this co-op. “ACES will be the first information cooperative, a new framework for organizations and even individuals compensated for the data delivered to users,” said Alberto Saavedra, co-founder and COO of Earth Accounting.

In order to help fund the initial development of EarthTouch, Earth Accounting has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The first $40,000 raised will be used to finalize design, gather data, and create the legal infrastructure for the ACES information co-op.
