Sydney 10 June 2015. Who says fundraising events are never fun and memorable? For many, this kind of event is for the older generation as the boomers have always been the major donors, most of whom are even willing to give almost 50 percent of their money to charity. But times are changing and so does the way fundraising events are being held around the world. So here are some unique fundraising ideas for charity!

1. Volunteers will have to pay to work

Hold a volunteer day at your organization but add some twist to it. The idea is to get the volunteers to work but they have to pay for the position they want to portray. For example, the goal is to repair a classroom in your community college, one of the volunteers may pay $100 to hold the carpenter position. The proceeds will then be given to your chosen charity.

2. Go-Kart display show for the family

A wholesome event where dads and kids can bond together over designing and creating a home-made go-kart. Of course, the kart must have four wheels, a wooden box, and a driver seat. Then, proudly display your Instagram-worthy go-kart on the podium and enjoy seeing other eccentric designs by your friends. You can raise money by selling tickets to interested guests and ask for sponsorships. Make sure that everyone in town will hear of this event by making local radio and news announcements.

3. Raffle events with a twist

Every staff member of your organization shall be given a raffle ticket. Surprisingly, the prizes are not small appliances but quirky items and action commands such as sing Frozen’s Let it Go while crying, having to wear tattered clothes and pretend he’s the Incredible Hulk, having to dance to the latest dance craze, among many others, that somehow put the raffle winners in a not-so-embarrassing situation. The only way they can get away with it is by selling their tickets back to the organizers.

4. Hold a UNICEF-inspired birthday party

An example of direct action fundraising, simply make use of the UNICEF birthday gifts as a giveaway for your guests. In return, the recipients of the proceeds will have a shot at a better life through education and enlightenment. Visit UNICEF for fundraising ideas that you can use for your own activities or share these ideas with others.

5. Pull-off something similar to the Potato Salad Campaign

Come up with a unique and attention-getting idea that people can easily relate to. The Potato Salad campaign started out as a joke by Zack Brown when he asked $10 from donors on a crowdfunding site in order to make potato salad. The simple yet unique idea was a hit, attracting over 5,000 donors. As a result, the project gained $55,000 in donations, some of which he used for funding a feeding program in Columbus, OH.

A successful fundraising event should be fun, creative, and memorable enough to attract sponsors and donors. Your event doesn’t have to be as elaborate as holding a musical show, but it can also be as simple as running a potato salad campaign in exchange for feeding the hungry in impoverished areas.
