New N Series ticks safety box

N Series is a complete solution that ticks every box

Isuzu’s highly anticipated new N Series ‘intelligent truck’ is packed with safety features and innovative engineering technology, positioning the model line-up as one of the most advanced in the Australian truck market.

As a ‘fit-for-purpose’ solution with more safety offerings than ever before, the 2015 Isuzu N Series package sets a new high watermark in the hard-fought light duty market segment.

Previewed in May at the 2015 Brisbane Truck Show, the model’s comprehensive safety suite has received a boost with the introduction of Isuzu Electronic Stability Control or IESC.

Further completing this safety package is an anti-slip regulator or ASR control upgrade on models with IESC.

IESC: How it works

Isuzu Electronic Stability Control applies to all Isuzu NLR, NNR and NPR models - building on an already imposing set of safety credentials within the range.

The on-board technology gathers information from a range of sensors to detect and help correct an unexpected loss of control.

Data from sensors throughout the truck is continually fed to an electronic hydraulic control unit or EHCU. This data informs automated engine torque and braking reactions to bring an otherwise hazardous driving scenario back under control.

The EHCU could be described as ‘the brains’ behind IESC and also works to control a long list of complementary preventative safety aids aboard the clever 2015 Isuzu N Series.

These safety features include anti-lock braking, electronic brake force distribution system, anti-slip regulator systems and boost assist when fitted and Hill Start Assist.

IESC: When does it work?

Isuzu’s philosophy of continuous improvement means that in 2015, every safety base is covered and covered extremely well. This includes intuitive and pre-emptive safety measures such as IESC.

In a driving situation, IESC works by constantly monitoring speed, brake performance, steering angle, suspension geometry, and rotation angle.

As a working example (in an understeer situation), as the vehicle speed increases, the amount of side slip at the front tyre increases and the turning radius becomes larger. When EHCU detects side slip of the front tyres, it then applies the brakes on the outer wheels and inner drive wheel, whilst also instructing the engine to reduce torque.

The complete package

From the ‘breadth-of-range’, to its class-leading engine and driveline, through to the cabin appointments, safety enhancements and after sales support…the N Series truly is the embodiment of the ‘intelligent truck.’

The addition of IESC to the already wide-ranging suite of safety features on the 2015 Isuzu N Series also cements this model’s class-leading position in the light truck market.

Isuzu Australia Limited’s (IAL) National Sales Manager, Andrew Harbison, said the elevated safety specification of the 2015 N Series trucks would lead to sales opportunities.

“What we find in the new N Series is a complete solution that ticks every box,” he said.

"The availability of enhanced safety features across the new 2015 Isuzu N Series range will bring the highest quality safety technology within the grasp of many fleets and owner drivers.

"As the Australian truck market leaders, Isuzu trucks are justifiably the first choice of many operators. And as these new N Series models go into service, they will play their part in making a safer, more advanced working environment available to more and more of Australia's truck drivers."
