Motorhome Hire: 5 Things You Must Know

Renting a motorhome for a special road trip of holiday can be an exciting experience, but it is important to know that there are many little things that are critical to know when it comes to driving a motorhome. Going with a motorhome hire before even considering a purchase is a good idea, but even with a rental before you go on an extended holiday you need to know these following five tips to travel like a pro.

#1: There Are Many Types of RVs & Motorhomes

There are four common classes of these types of vehicles: A, B, C, & D. All of these vehicles have different sizes, different driving requirements, and each one is going to give a very different experience when it comes to both driving and setting up at camp. Take a look at the various different motorhomes available and figure out which ones you are most likely to feel comfortable with.

#2: Take a Practice Drive

This is a critical part of any motorhome hire rental. See if you can take a basic practice drive because you never know what type of motorhome or setup is going to work best for you until you actually take a practice drive. Look at how the handling works, the level of luxury that particular motorhome offers and what combination works best for you and your holiday travel plans.

#3: Call Ahead for Campsite Reservations

While rolling around with your moving vacation home is an awesome way to travel, especially if you haven't taken advantage of hiring a motorhome before, but you still need to take care of calling ahead for campsite reservations. There's often a decent amount of competition for reserving a campsite and having the ability to enjoy all of life's conveniences with the proper hookups doesn't do you any good if you can't get to a campsite that is set up to provide services to traveling motorhomes.

A little bit of foresight goes a long way.

#4: Create a Campsite Checklist

In the beginning it can be hard to remember what exactly you need to do and how to set up a good campsite to make sure you're up and running. Make a full checklist on things to do once you reach your campsite, or borrow a camp checklist from an experienced traveler who prints theirs online. This will make things a lot easier since you can just run through the list until you build enough experience to make all of this just second nature.

#5: Don't Pack Too Much

As a first time motorhome user it is easy to pack too much, but this is a common mistake that you really want to avoid. While the temptation can be to pack everything under the sun, just get firewood at your campsites, remember water is really heavy, and even if you are camping with your portable home you are still camping. Make sure you have the basics and any emergency equipment for those just in case scenarios, but don't overdo it with the packing. Keep it within reason and your trip will go much more smoothly as a result!

Follow these five tips and you will soon be traveling with your motorhome like a pro!
