Here are a few things you shouldn’t do if you love your car

A car is a big investment for anyone working 9 to 5 and it’s a passion for those who live to drive. In any case, taking care of your set of wheels is important. You might do your best to keep your car in good shape, but there are things most car owners tend to do and end up complaining about their car breaking down every now and then. These are the things even your mechanic won’t warn you about, because then they would not be able to get business on a regular basis.

Read on to learn more.

#1 Overlooking Electrical fuse and relays

As surprising as it may get, a simple component, like a fuse or relay, can be the reason for your car breakdown. In modern cars, fuse and relay control most of the engine’s sensors and internal components. A small technical glitch can lead to major problems, and you won’t even realize until it becomes apparent and cause inconvenience. For instance: if the relay, which drives the cooling fan, does not function properly, your car may get overheat quickly. And trust me on this, things can get even worse when you face overheating problem. Engine head gasket failure is the most common problem of all.

#2 Skipping Regular Service

What happens when you skip the routine service of your vehicle? The engine runs on the same engine oil which has already burnt out and has lost its lubrication property. Due to this, the friction between piston and cylinder increases, which accelerates wear and tear. For every mile you drive after the due service date, you will have to pay the piper.

#3 Using Air Conditioning System on Battery

Usually, air conditioning systems aren’t designed to operate on batteries, but still most car owners leave the AC running after the engine is shut off. This puts intense load on the battery and it dies out way earlier than it should. Besides, a low battery can leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. So, it is advised to turn off the AC before you turn off the ignition.

#4 Revving the Engine in Neutral

This one is dedicated to all the Fast & Furious fans who love to rev their engine at a traffic signal or in the parking lot just to get the feel of it. I hate to bear the bad news but this isn’t good for your car’s health. However, if your car has a rev-limiter in place, there’s no harm in doing so, but why take the risk?

#5 Driving slow in top gear

When you drive slow in the top gear, say, keeping RPM around 1000, you are pushing your engine into working hard. This will have a detrimental effect on your engine’s health and the fuel efficiency may also drop unexpectedly.

#6 Using duplicate spare parts

It’s easy for your mechanic to talk you into buying a duplicate spare part for your car, but this doesn’t help in the long run. Either you’ll have to replace the part sooner or your engine may develop complications with a duplicate spare part in place.

#7 Calling non-certified mechanic for roadside assistance

It is understood that you don’t have a choice when your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and you have to fall back on whoever is available at the moment. In such a situation, you must calm down and call up a silver taxi Melbourne service, in case you are on the outskirts of Melbourne. The priority is to get home safely and then find the mechanic later or the next day. Once you are in the city, there are plenty of options to look at.

Keeping the aforementioned things in mind will never let you face bad experiences as a car owner. Share this article with someone who should read this.
