2013 was a huge year for the Accord, featuring a complete model redesign that changed the engine options, body design, safety features, and convenience options. Then in 2014 the major innovation was the addition of the Accord Hybrid, a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly step forward for the brand. Compared to those overhauls, which left the Accord a far more modern and reliable vehicle, the 2014 changes were subtler and sought to continue their recent run of success. The ninth-generation 2015 Accord will stick with the successful changes from 2013, such as the 2.4L direct-injection 4-cylinder and 3.5L 6-cylinder engine options, major body modifications, and new drive train options.
Honda dealers love the Accord for its wide range of package options, and the 2015s feature the same LX, Touring, EX-L, LX-S and EX trim packages, each with a new set of accessories and gadgets accompanying them. Features like front and rear cameras, Forward Collision and Lane Departure Warnings, SmartVent ™ Airbags, and Vehicle Stability Assist ™ make the Accord both safer and more modern in addition to aiding drivability and fuel efficiency. Most models are testing at absurd mileage rates exceeding 40 miles per gallon in both city and highway driving, with the hybrid models getting well over 50 mpg. The 2015 Hybrid has also made some subtle style changes to the interior and exterior design, as well as making strides in increasing its plug-in capability.
No major redesign is expected for 2016 either, although rumors are a big one could happen as early as 2017. New features on the way before that could be turbocharged engines and high-pressure direct-injection fuel systems, but that is all speculation at this juncture. For now, Honda is very excited about the continued progress of what is already one of the marquis names in midsize sedans. Look for the 2015s at your local Honda dealership by September or October, but the exact date will vary based on location. The Accord has become known as a comfortable, roomy vehicle offering a smooth ride, optimal fuel economy, and is very easy to live with for both single drivers and families, and the new model year looks to continue and build upon that legacy.
