Employers who purchase coverage through the SHOP (Small Business Health Insurance Options Program) can begin looking for coverage now (October 1) for a January 1, 2014 effective date. This tax credit is an incentive for employers to offer coverage to their employees. However, if employers offer group coverage off the Marketplace, there is no premium tax credit.

Individuals who purchase coverage through the Marketplace are eligible for premium and cost-share subsidies if their income is within 400% of poverty.
