Nationwide Contracting is one of the leading fire restoration contractors in its area. The company is capable of performing a variety of contractor services but fire restoration remains one of its specialties. However, despite being an important facet of its work, the company would rather people take measures to protect themselves and their homes from fires in the first place. "We don't want any person or family to experience the tragedy of a house fire, but when it does happen, there are professionals ready to step in and heal the hurt by restoring fire and smoke damage to homes," says Nationwide Contracting.
The United States Fire Administration shows statistically: "Home fires are more prevalent in the winter than in any other season. This is due in part to an increase in cooking and heating fires. Holiday decorations and winter storms that can interrupt electrical service and cause people to turn to alternative heating sources also contribute to the increased risk of fire in winter."
As seen by Nationwide Consulting, the National Fire Protection Association compiled fire statistics to find that: "Space heaters, whether portable or stationary, accounted for one-third of home heating fires." Nearly half the time, fires were caused by heaters and heating equipment being placed too close to things that are flammable or can burn.
But not all winter fires are caused by home heating appliances. Other fire risks included candles, cooking, winter storms, holiday decorations, and electrical problems. Nationwide Contracting finds an unfortunate trend that many winter fires could have been prevented if candles were extinguished when no one is present to monitor it and if people paid close attention avoid electrical threats when using power strips and extension cords for decorating.
"Not every winter threat is preventable. In cases like winter storms, you cannot predict when and what will happen," says Nationwide Contracting. Some winter threats related to storms include downed utility lines, frozen water pipes that can burst, and combustible gas leaks.
Another resource protecting homeowners of winter fire hazards is PRWeb.com which in one of their articles published tips for avoiding electrical fires. The article warns homeowners: "Lighting related electrical fires can be prevented by not exceeding the maximum light bulb wattage." The article offers more advice on the use of extension cords - often used during winter months for decoration purposes, the article warn: "Extension cords are meant for temporary use only. If you find you are permanently using an extension cord, have an electrician install another outlet."
Nationwide Contracting does offer consultation services primarily used for contractor work clients are interested in. However, as a contractor specialized in fire restoration, the company is aware of the common causes of home fires and is a great resource to turn to on the common causes and what to do after a house fire.
