Dr. Del Vecchio will be receiving this award for his paper "'SIEF'- Simultaneous Implant Exchange with Fat: A New Option in Revision Breast Implant Surgery"(Plast. Reconstr. Surg. 130: 1187, 2012). This paper explains the technique, called simultaneous implant exchange with fat (SIEF), which is a "conceptual paradigm shift of using natural fat for volumetric augmentation and breast reshaping," wherein the doctor removes existing implants and replaces them with the patient's own fat cells. Historically implants have been replaced with other implants or simply removed. The SIEF procedure gives patients a new option, one that allows them to remove their implants but still have the desired shape or fullness. This paper further illustrates the overall utility and versatility of fat transfer, and posits that in the future "
In San Diego, Dr. Del Vecchio will be lecturing on the following topics:
• Composite Breast Augmentation ( Implant and Fat)• Approaches to fat grafting- Harvesting, Processing and Technique
With book chapters, international and national exposure, Dr. Del Vecchio holds one of the largest experiences in the world in the field of large volume fat grafting to the breast and buttock. Dr. Del Vecchio is routinely a Key Note speaker at many Plastic Surgery Events around the world, and also performs live surgery in front of his audiences. The technique of fat grafting to the breast is a relatively new procedure, one that yields natural, long term results of breast augmentation and buttock augmentation through a very minimally-invasive route. It is a very appealing procedure to patients who wish to have a significant increase in breast or buttock size, without the use of an artificial implant.
Dr. Del Vecchio has degrees from Yale University, Harvard Medical School and Columbia University.
He has trained surgical residents at Tufts New England Medical Center, where he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery, and at Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital where he is currently a member of the Consulting Staff in the Division of Plastic Surgery. He also currently has a thriving Plastic Surgery on Newbury Street in Boston's historic Back Bay.
