The enterprise wiki is going to be improved in five main sections: quality management, usability, administration, architecture and skin. „In July, we started a feature poll to ask our customers and BlueSpice users what they want for BlueSpice. We considered these demands for version 2 of BlueSpice", told the head of development Markus Glaser.
A lot of the suggestions concern to the quality management. So we decided to implement a user and admin dashboard. The dashboards shall help to simplify everyday work and due to this, the dashboards can also be customized.
In addition to his, some MediaWiki innovations will be integrated, for example the „notification system". This system delivers interaction messages to users.
There are also changes to improve the daily work of the users. Obvious is the new skin, which will be responsive and optimized for mobile devices. The visual editor is based on the version of the TinyMCE. „The development of a WYSIWYGeditor in MediaWiki is progressing but the BlueSpice editor is still many steps ahead", said Dr. Richard Heigl of the Hallo Welt! - Medienwerkstatt GmbH.
With the upgrade to the newest SolR-Server, BlueSpice users will be able to navigate with the search. The integration of "related articles" allows to display related contents in every article. Also a multiupload of images and documents will be possible with BlueSpice 2.
The administration oft he wiki is already easier with BlueSpice than with MediaWiki and there are further improvements with the upcoming version. Richard Heigl is pleased: "We found a way to make the administration even more transparent. It is also possible to administrate the wiki in-depth knowledge of MediaWiki.".
Not obvious at the first sight is the rebuilt BlueSpice core. „BlueSpice becomes a "real" MediaWiki extension", told Markus Glaser. BlueSpice won't have own libraries anymore and accordint to this, the system performance has been improved. With its new architecture, the free version of BlueSpice can now become part of the MediaWiki Git Repository. „This is an important step towards developing an independent developer community", said Glaser, „Opening BlueSpice up for freelance developers in the global MediaWiki community lays the foundation for many new language versions".
