Sharing a similar appreciation of meat, writer Christina Sterbenz recently shared her appreciation of BBQ--and meat in general--in a new Business Insider article entitled "7 Reasons Why I Refuse to Stop Eating Meat." In it she states, "Almost all my major characteristics suggest I would choose a meat-free lifestyle. I'm a single woman. Unmarried adults and females are way more likely to become vegetarians, according to a recent Gallop poll. I'm also liberal. I'm an animal-lover and fairly interested in being healthy. But I will never forsake one of my greatest joys in life: meat, especially the red kind."
In a recent press statement, Queology responds, "While Sterbenz may feel like the odd girl out as a meat lover, we can assure her women all across America still love to dive into classic southern BBQ. With men and women patrons constantly stopping by for our award-winning ribs and other selections, Queology knows that there are many reasons why it's commendable to enjoy red meat."
While many diners may simply crave the rich flavors that barbecue dishes can offer, the Business Insider article notes a few reason why some vegetarians may want to venture outside of their comfort zone and indulge in red meat. For instance, the article suggests, "Yes, vegetables contain iron -- but not the good kind. Consuming plants gives your body nonheme iron, a version less easily absorbed by the body. Also, spinach, considered one of the most iron-rich leafy greens, doesn't have as much as many believe...Heme iron, the better type, only comes from life forms with hemoglobin, such as red meat, pork, poultry, and fish."
With 30 percent of the world suffering from iron deficiency--according to the World Health Organization--Queology believes it is important for all consumers to rethink the value that barbecue may offer aside from flavor.
In addition to the benefits that meat can offer in terms of iron consumption, Queology also celebrates Business Insider's observance of how the food group also contains other important nutrients, such as vitamin B12.
