Taylor earned national recognition during a New York Times video feature, donning him the "Subway Idol" in 2008. The feature newsreels followed Joe as a local artist on a quest to earn a public performance permit from the City of New York and went viral on YouTube. Taylor followed the instant fame by providing a CD release that showed exactly why the New York Times would feature his artistry. The 12-song release hit the charts at Number One in Canada, a feat unseen by an unsigned artist since Nickelback achieved the same fame. The single "Sweetest Tune" became a prime time drama sensation as it was included in the daytime soap "Days of Our Lives" and earned Taylor more national notoriety as he embarked on a coast to coast club tour that saw an incredibly positive response.

In 2013, Taylor took the stage with fellow songwriting and performing artist Rick Springfield on Long Island performing for his local fan base and booked a residency at the Hard Rock Cafe in Connecticut with a highlight show on Halloween Night. Immediately following, Taylor has booked a series of dates stretching from New York to Los Angeles with three nights in Las Vegas.
