NEW YORK, NY, May 11, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The New York Jazz Academy is still accepting summer intensive applications on a case-by-case basis. Summer intensives are held from the end of June through August, and participants may choose to attend one or more weeks. Students learn a variety of musical elements through clinics, classes and performance activities. Member tuition costs $726 - $876 per regular week, and $650 on the Holiday Week. Non-member tuition costs $908 - $1,095 per regular week and $876 on the Holiday Week. Intensives are located at the academy's school of music on Manhattan's upper west side at 263 West 86th St., New York, NY, 10024.

This summer, the New York Jazz Academy is offering NYC's most popular intensives for teens and adults of all skill levels. Participating students are placed in ensembles that prepare for performance by stressing a combination of reading music, improvising and collaborative music making. Students are given opportunities to visit major jazz venues, clubs, historical sites and visits with popular jazz musicians on today's music scene. Each week focuses on different material, which gives returning musicians a new and exciting agenda with every visit.

The New York Jazz Academy's programs are taught by fine performing artists and professional educators including Tom Dempsey, Dave Ambrosio, Pete Zimmer, Adam Birnbaum and many others. Students leave intensives with a greater understanding of harmony, melody and jazz styles. From performing professionals, participants receive a significant amount of feedback that will further their skills and techniques as growing musicians. Summer jazz programs include jazz theory courses, sectional workshops, private lessons, jam sessions, ensemble rehearsals, guest-artist master classes and more.
