Australia’s Higher Education Loan Program eliminates up-front financial barriers to tertiary education by providing students with income contingent loans. While these loans can help cover tuition and registration fees, it does nothing to alleviate living expenses.
With a studio apartment costing as much as $2,200 in a metro area, many students are hesitant to consider venturing away from home to pursue an education.
“Australia’s Educational Loan Program is a great resource for students, but it places limits on where they can study because it doesn’t cover the additional living expenses,” says Brandon Wade, Founder and CEO of SeekingArrangement.com. “Students need ways to keep a roof over their head and food on the table while in school. It’s stressful and sours the college experience.”
Sugar Baby students receive an average of $2,700 in monthly allowances, earning $1,400 more per month than a student working part time at the national minimum wage, without having to dedicate precious study hours to a job.
“Some see this as a controversial solution. However, SeekingArrangement.com has helped facilitate hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of arrangements that have helped students graduate debt-free,” says Wade. “That’s more than anyone can say of a particular president or government party.”
Thirty-five percent of SeekingArrangement’s collegiate population from upper-middle and high-income families, no change from last year. However, the ratio of undergraduates to graduate students is up at 82 percent to 18 percent, respectively.
The site offers free premium memberships to students that register with their school assigned.edu email address or show proof of enrollment. Each student must re-verify this information each year.
