A Guide to Moving Into a New Office

Moving into a new office is a big step for any business, so you should embrace it. It’s something that you need to undertake carefully too though. If you make mistakes, your job will just be even more difficult, so here’s how to do it properly.

Pack Up the Smart Way

Packing up your old office is one of the most time-consuming activities you will have to undertake when moving. It’s just like when you move house, except there are a lot more files and documents to shift. It makes sense to pack up in a smart and sensible way. This means labeling boxes carefully. You want every item to be easy to find when it actually comes to unpacking everything when you reach your new office. It’s not something that you should rush or leave to the last minute. That will only make your task more difficult in the future.

Make the New Office Safe

When you first arrive at the new office, before everyone returns to work, you need to make it safe. Things like electrics and plumbing need to be sorted out, as well as all of the other utilities. You’ll have to hire professionals to deal with these kinds of things because you won’t be able to sort them out alone. It’s also worth having the office inspected by a professional to look for any potential safety issues in the office. They will then be able to report back to you and inform you of any changes that need to be made. If there are issues with asbestos in the office, then hire a company like PROAS to sort it out rapidly.

Upgrade Office Furniture

Moving to a new office usually means having to upgrade the office furniture. You don’t have to do this if the office you're moving into has furniture. But taking the opportunity to upgrade makes sense when you are making a move. The office needs to have the right furniture if you want your employees to do their best work. They won’t do their best work if they are not comfortable and relaxed with the office and the furniture they use each day. It can be a good idea to purchase chairs and desks that have been designed ergonomically. This means that they will be much easier and more comfortable to use.

Start Working as Usual

If you ask me, the most important thing is to start work as usual as fast as you can. There can be a big lull in the business’s activity when they are going from one office to another. It’s best for everyone if you get back to normal fast. This will stop the business from missing out on revenue during that period of time. There is not much point in delaying the day when your employees move in because this will cause more problems. The office doesn’t need to have all the decoration work to be already done before everyone moves in to start work. That kind of thing can be taken care of later if necessary.
