First stage of The Glen’s $460 million redevelopment opens



Vicinity Centres and co-owners Perron Group have opened the first stage of The Glen’s $460 million redevelopment in Melbourne’s south east.

 

Opening fully leased, on schedule and on budget, this stage incorporates a fresh food market hall including a new Aldi, the latest format Woolworths, a Coles supermarket and 60 boutique food retailers and specialty stores.



Mr Angus McNaughton CEO and Managing Director of Vicinity Centres, said: “Combining fresh food retailers, cafes and supermarkets on one convenient level gives customers a true one-stop destination and a space where they can eat, drink, shop and socialise, enjoying incredible choice and variety.”

The redevelopment of The Glen has been under construction since March 2017 and it is estimated that the project is creating 2,350 jobs including 1,150 jobs through construction and 1,200 ongoing retail, hospitality and service roles at the completed centre.

 

Mr Ross Robertson, Perron Group’s Chief Executive Officer said: “This first stage delivers a vibrant fresh food destination with produce, specialty stores and a plethora of casual dining options complementing the convenience of Australia’s three leading supermarkets – Aldi, Woolworths and Coles.”

 

The second stage of The Glen’s transformation, a new contemporary food gallery will be unveiled in early 2018 and the centre’s complete transformation will complete by early 2020.

 

Expanding to approximately 78,000 sqm of gross lettable area, ‘The New Glen’ redevelopment is creating a local lifestyle and community destination where retail, dining and entertainment will deliver a premium customer experience.

 

In addition to the fresh food market hall, the completed centre will include two dining precincts, a town square, a premium fashion mall with David Jones, international and Australian brands, along with an exciting collection of everyday fashion and lifestyle stores.

 

Residential developer, Golden Age Group will deliver the residential project of more than 500 apartments across three towers.
