Looking for a Real Estate Photographer?

Here Are The Things to Look Out For.

So you probably already know how important it is to be able to get the help of a professional real estate photographer when you’re planning on selling your house. They are experts in their craft who have undergone extensive training in order to provide exemplary services to their clients. But the sad truth is that there are pretenders who mar the reputation of the profession. So, how do you know if a candidate is the right real estate photographer for you?

So, the first thing to do is to look at their previous work. Not only does this give you a peek into what their artistic style is like, it also gives you an idea on the quality of their work and if it suits your preferences. This is important so that you know exactly what you’re spending your hard-earned cash on.

You can also tell if a real estate photographer is the one for you by looking at how responsive they are during communication. This is vital for the both of you to be able to maintain a clear goal between what you expect and what is required of the photographer. If a candidate does not respond promptly, there’s a chance that that candidate is simply too busy with other clients or worse, that candidate simply does not manage his or her business properly. Either way, you wouldn’t want to work with someone who cannot give your project the same level of importance as other projects.

You should also find out what type of business model do they employ. Do they work for a large company? Or are they a small, local business. This information is important because this gives you an idea of how motivated your photographer will be. This is because most (not all) big real estate photography agencies pay their photography staff lower wages versus freelancers. This affects you because not only do you not who is going to be your photographer on the day of the photoshoot, whoever it is, they are more likely to take a one-trick pony approach to your project.

Because these photographers get so little out of their efforts, they are more likely to conduct the project with a “let’s just get it over with.” attitude. This means that their aim will simply be the minimum acceptable company standards, whereas freelancers are more likely to spend more time tweaking shots and ensuring that you get the best possible results that they can deliver. This is because not only do they get most of the profits, but their reputation is also at stake with each client they deal with.

Another important pointer is to look at how the photographer prices his services. Not only that, but you also have to compare his prices with that of other professionals in the area. If you find that your candidates prices are at the bottom end of the spectrum, there’s a chance either your candidate doesn’t understand the market he’s in, or even worse, your candidate doesn’t know what he’s doing (regardless whether it’s due to a lack of training, lack of experience, or an utter lack of confidence in his skills) and his prices reflect that.

Whichever the reasons, you don’t want to work with someone who lacks training, confidence, and experience. You might as well do the project yourself if that’s the case. The point is that real estate photography is meant to attract buyers and to help you secure a sale. Most types of photography are meant to capture precious moments on film. With that in mind, an inexperienced photographer is barely enough to deliver the results that you require. This is because an inexperienced photographer is less likely to possess sufficient knowledge on the real estate market, which drives me to my next point.

You need to make sure that your photographer understands the real estate market. This is important because this will become the basis for the imagery that they would want to display in their photos. If your photographer knows the real estate market, they’ll know what buyers appreciate most when they’re looking for new property. They’ll know which spots to avoid, and how to set up a scene to make it appealing for real estate buyers. An understanding of the real estate market also allows them to effectively stage your home.

It’s always important to know what you’re looking for in order for you to have a clear basis for comparison when you plan to determine if the services that you’ve received are on par with what you asked for. This applies not only to photographers, but to all types of freelancers.
