Brisbane 9 August 2013. Queensland’s ICT achievers have enjoyed great success at the 2013 national iAwards, with Queensland entrants winning seven awards at last night’s presentation in Melbourne.

Winners included Queensland entrepreneur Yvette Adams, who was named ICT Woman of the Year; local company V2i, which won the resources category with a health and safety eLearning platform; and CSIRO Queensland for the Zebedee hand-held mobile mapping device.

Minister for Science and Innovation Ian Walker congratulated all the local winners for their success at the national iAwards, which are widely regarded as Australia’s premier technology awards.

“All of the 21 Queensland finalists who attended the iAwards demonstrate the creativity and energy that’s required to be an ICT innovator or entrepreneur,” Mr Walker said.

“Congratulations to those who’ve brought home awards, and to all of the entrants for providing significant stimulus to the Queensland economy.”

Mr Walker said that the Queensland Government had supported local firms to make their national pitches.

“It’s another part of our commitment to fostering a clever, creative and connected state,” he said.

The iAwards are run by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), the Australian Computer Society, and the Pearcey Foundation.

Chair of AIIA’s Queensland Council Committee Professor Simon Kaplan said that government support was a critical part of encouraging ICT innovators and achievers.

“The fantastic support of the Queensland Government for the iAwards continues to help the ICT industry in Queensland to grow,” Mr Kaplan said.

“Many of our iAward entrants are small businesses who are working hard to operate successfully in a very tough economic environment. Queensland Government support really makes a difference.”
