Small business Aceit Awarded Best Exporter in the Illawarra

Premier’s New South Wales export awards

Wollongong-based clothing and promotional merchandise company Aceit, has proven small business can win against big business, taking the 2016 title of Illawarra Exporter of the Year at the Premier’s New South Wales Export Awards.

Competing against 78 other finalists across the nineteen award categories, Aceit proved their worth to the judges with an unconventional but lucrative three-year contract to supply lawn bowls uniforms to the England team and clubs across the country.

Aceit Managing Director, Gino Arcella, says this is just one of many interesting contracts that has helped the business compete on the world stage. Aceit supplies work and sporting uniforms and promotional materials for some of the biggest businesses across Australia, including the AFL, Basketball NSW and Western Sydney Academy of Sport.

“It’s a proud moment that, after 25 years working in the Illawarra, we’re at this point, beating some really big businesses in the export game,” Mr. Arcella said.

“This is especially important to us at this time because of how much growth and competition there is at the moment in the Illawarra.

“With some of Australia’s largest businesses now here and so many people being drawn to the area, there is a lot more opportunity and sense of potential.

“If I could offer any other business advice on how to crack the export market, I would say to look for areas in your business that you could expand to add value to your customers.

“Also, invest in your staff with training to empower them to make decisions with the future of the company in mind,” Mr. Arcella said.

Chief Executive Officer of the Export Council of Australia (ECA) Lisa McAuley said, as a leading advocate for international trade, the ECA is honoured to once again run the statewide competition where nominees secure their reputation globally.

“Acknowledging exporters is vital in building awareness of new market opportunities available to business owners. NSW companies are exporting their goods and services with excellent results and now is the time to focus on building Australia’s trade capabilities and encouraging more companies to look at the global opportunities that are opening up,” she said.

Aceit’s award win at the Premier’s New South Wales Export Awards is the second in a string of recent award wins which started at the Illawarra Business Awards when they took out the Excellence in Export category.

Industry comments

I am not surprised with Aceit’s recent award wins as I firmly believe they manage their international customers with as much care and respect as their domestic customers.”

PARTNERSHIP: ACEIT AND WARILLA BOWLING CLUB

After experiencing ongoing trouble finding a reliable and high-quality uniform supplier, we started on a quest many years ago to find the ultimate provider.

We came across Aceit and quickly determined that they were experts in the field who understand the intricate needs of what makes a great sporting uniform.

After our very first meeting with them, they won us over based on their exceptional customer service, their quality products and the trust that they had clearly built with their other clients. I found myself wanting to be added to that clientele!

Over six years ago we signed them on permanently and haven’t looked back.

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING

Aceit supplies our business with staff uniforms as well as uniforms for our many bowls teams. The core advantage that Aceit delivers lies in their high-quality products that are durable and lasting with a unique design.

We also love that their business is based in the Illawarra. It is important for us “small businesses” to support each other.

For us, it is highly convenient that they are close by, however, in light of their recent export award wins, I am confident that geography is no barrier to this evolving business.

Beyond the product, we cannot fault our experience with the Aceit team. Their customer service is second to none. They boast excellent communications, their team are only too pleased to listen and assist with our queries and they are always available to chat about our individual business needs.

Something that makes Aceit extra-exceptional is their after-sales-service. We always feel valued as a client thanks to the amazing people on the Aceit team.

THOUGHTS ON ACEIT AWARD WINS

PARTNERSHIP: ACEIT AND WESTERN SYDNEY ACADEMY OF SPORT

Aceit supplies both performance and casual clothing for our organisation.

After searching for a reliable and professional supplier for our clothing needs, we were referred to Aceit by one of our fellow Academies, and we were happy to meet with them. That proved to be the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership that has now spanned nine years.

In a highly competitive market, we have been approached on numerous occasions by other suppliers, however based on our high level of satisfaction with Aceit in terms of reliability, price and professional service, we see no need to make a change!

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING

Our annual spend on our clothing needs is between $40,000 and $45,000, a sizeable investment in our operational needs and branding, and we have entrusted this investment with Aceit for a long period now.

It’s safe to say that we trust Aceit with our business.

I recently reviewed a $20,000 Aceit order that comprised some 500 items and couldn’t find one error in quality, quantity or sizing.

I can’t fault Aceit and this is exactly why they are now a core part of our business and what feels like a true extension of our team.

As the CEO of Western Sydney Academy of Sport, the two key ingredients that I look for in my suppliers are reliability and a competitive price. Aceit meet this criteria consistently. They are professional and I have confidence when placing such large orders with them. 2/…

The Aceit team has a personal approach and ensures an open line of communication that makes them second to none.
