According to Jeff Poe, owner of one of Australia's largest finance, accounting and bookkeeping training companies, job opportunities in the finance and accounting sector are on the rise.  People with expertise and practical experience in the industry are in strong demand.   The business sector can not get enough people with expertise in accounting, particularly bookkeeping.

"People are talking about growth in the IT sector, but based on the opportunities I am seeing across the finance and accounting sector, I would say accounting and finance is the place to be," Mr Poe said today.

"New figures from the ABS show that the number of businesses operating in Australia is increasing.  As of 2014/2015, there were 2.1 million businesses trading and this number is continuing to rise.   Melbourne is a particular hot spot for start ups and new businesses.

"Every business needs financial, accounting and bookkeeping support.

"While many businesses are employing people in full time roles to undertake accounting and bookkeeping activities, many businesses are choosing to outsource these services to consultants, contractors and specialists without incurring the expense of full time salaries.    This means there are growing opportunities for people to contract their services on a consultancy or part time basis.

"And the great thing about this type of work is that much of it can be done remotely.   Many businesses now use cloud based accounting systems such as Zero and these systems can be accessed from anywhere.

"Retirees, stay at home parents, anyone with reasonable office or administration experience can get involved in providing services.

"Our training company launched online Certificate IV courses in accounting and bookkeeping early this year and the response has been extraordinary.    The courses are offered online and participants have up to 18 months to complete the courses.  Once complete, people can use the qualifications to become freelance bookkeepers, set up their own bookkeeping business or even seek consultancy, part time or full time roles as corporate accountants.
