Weird and Wild Museum Road Trips

Sometimes the best part of any trip aren't the world famous destinations or the popular and well-known travel routes, but sometimes it is the really strange or oddball attractions that you find along the way. If you want to plan out the ultimate road trip then make sure to add in a little bit of weirdness by bringing in some of these truly wild and weird museums.

This not only will help you have a truly memorable road trip, but helps insure you have some strange funny stories (and pictures) that your friends won't be able to one up. At the end of this article you will be ready to add a little weird and wild touring to your road trip for when you're finally ready to make that RV rental and go!

Barney’s Toilet Seat Museum

Located in San Antonio, Texas, Barney has a small garage museum containing hundreds of toilet seats, all decorated. Whether commemorating recent Super Bowls, past travels, or just a random piece of art, Barney has earned the nickname "The King of the Thrones."

The Mutter Museum

Located in the city of Philadelphia, the Mutter Museum could be nicknamed the museum of medical oddities. Deformed skulls, over 2,000 objects drawn from people's throats, and a wide array of random anatomy and medical materials that are definitely way out of the ordinary.

World's Largest Twine Ball

Located in Darwin, Minnesota, the attraction is simple yet delivers. Often used as a joke in many cartoons, this is the location of the actual world's biggest twine ball. The hardest part is finishing this section without making a cat joke. The purr-fect quick weird photo op.

International Cryptozoology Museum

Not that you need an excuse to visit Portland, Maine, but why not visit the International Cryptozoology Museum? This is where you see displays of animals…that are undiscovered or have never existed. Definitely a great kick for the child's imagination within us all!

National Mustard Museum

Located in Middleton, Wisconsin, the National Mustard Museum is all about the best condiment out there. Brown, spicy, yellow, honey Dijon, there's something for every mustard lover here. Don't go for the obvious cheese curd museum – take a look at the apparently large history of mustard.

International Banana Museum

Hanging out in Mecca, California, the International Banana Museum includes not only information on bananas, but everything with these designs. From toys to costumes to statues to perfume, if it is banana related you will find it here. No word on if the California Raisins are jealous.

The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum

Hey, it's not all about Mardi Gras, the French Quarter, and Jazz. The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is actually located in a historic building and is even registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Want to see the tools used for bloodletting? Bottles about prescription heroin for headaches? Medicinal whiskey? Find all these and more at the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum.

Choose any one of these options or find some others that hit your funny bone just right, but remember that some weird museums adds just the right spice to your amazing all American road trip.
