Is A Dirty Office Hurting Your Profits?

When you’re thinking about your office space, you’ll probably spend hours obsessing over the layout and the decoration, but you probably haven’t thought about keeping it clean. While the rest of those considerations are important, office cleanliness has a way bigger effect than you might realize.

Employing a cleaner is part of the battle, but as a boss, you always need to be aware of dirt around the office. Otherwise it could end up negatively affecting your business. If you don’t believe me, these are the reasons that a dirty office could be harming your business.

Image is everything, especially when it comes to first impressions.
It only takes around seven seconds for a person to make a judgement about you when they first meet you. That means you can’t afford to make any mistakes, especially during business meetings. When clients come to meet you at the office, part of their first impression will be affected by the office. By the time that you’ve met them and left the lobby, they will have already made their judgements. If the office building seems dirty, then they’ll start to question you as a business. Can they really trust you if you can’t even keep on top of your office? They might not realize they are taking these things into account, but it will affect their perception of you in a negative way. Even before they’ve entered the building, they’ll be building a picture of your company. That means you should hire the services of somebody like Flash commercial window cleaning to clean the outside of the office. If the building looks sparkling on approach, they’ll start off with the right attitude.

As well as potential business partners, people that are interviewing for jobs might be put off by a dirty office, they will be working there after all. That means you could end up losing out on a valuable team member because of something so small.

If you regularly have customers coming to your office then cleanliness should be top of your list of priorities. There is nothing that will put customers off more than an unclean office space. If they’re buying products from you, they need to be confident in the fact that you are hard working and you take note of every tiny detail. Having a dirty office suggests the opposite, so customers aren’t going to trust you or your products.

Productivity

It’s no secret that a happy and comfortable workforce is a more productive workforce. There are plenty of different ways that you can boost morale around the office and you should be doing them already, but making sure the office is clean is something that people often overlook. Having a cluttered office makes it much harder to work effectively because you’re putting unnecessary obstacles in your way. If you don’t show respect for your office, your employees are much less likely to. This attitude will spill over into their perception of the company as a whole so their productivity is going to suffer a lot.

Illness

Having sick employees is never ideal. They’ll end up missing days and getting behind on their work. There are all sorts of factors that can lead to employees getting ill; high workloads can lead to extreme levels of stress which can cause illness. Hygiene around the office is also a huge contributor. If your office is dirty, germs will spread easily and you might find that loads of your employees start falling ill and productivity will take a massive dive.

For that reason, you need to keep all areas of the office in tip top shape. However, you should take extra care when it comes to any kitchen areas. People are eating and drinking in there and this is the quickest way to spread germs so if it’s dirty in there, make sure you clean it up.

As well as the kitchen, you need to ensure that the toilets are kept in perfect condition. The state of the toilet is one of the biggest factors that people consider when making judgements about a building. Because people’s perceptions of your office extend into their view of your company as a whole, you need to ensure that they don’t get the wrong idea about you because of a dirty toilet. It’s also the biggest spreader of germs in the building so it’s vital that you keep it clean to avoid your employees getting sick.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the state of your office, have a good look around next time you’re there and make sure it’s all up to scratch.
