What is Search Engine Optimization?

Simply put, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of attracting website traffic from organic search results through search engines such as Bing and Google.

Major search engines such as Google rank the search results based on what it considers to be highly relevant to the users. These are referred to as organic results as they are not driven through paid advertising and are free.

Through Search Engine Optimization, businesses maximize their website traffic by making sure that their webpage ranks well organically in a Search Engine’s search results.

Search engine optimization often involves very small modifications to the websites so that they can rank well. When you look at these changes on an individual level, they may look like small improvements. However, in combination with other improvements, these small improvements can create a big impact on the user experience resulting in better ranking in search engines.

In order to drive big results, however, it is important to make such changes in a methodical and planned manner.

Whenever a query is put into a search engine, it searches the entire internet in order to look for text meeting particular criteria. In SEO terms, this text is referred to as keywords. These involve the primary themes of a company, product, or a website. Other important factors that search engines use for rankings include headings, links on the webpages, and titles. At the same time, search engine indexing is also employed by search engines in order to store, digest, and find a website content.

What are keywords?

Keywords are the terms that people use when they are conducting searches. It is important to include these terms in the web page's content. Hence, the right use of keywords can help drive good traffic to the website, improve the rankings, and increase the conversions.

When you are deciding the keywords to include in the text, it is important to consider their overall relevancy to the company or the website. At the same time, check whether the competitors are also using the same/similar keywords. Services such as Google AdWords allow users to test the value of their chosen keywords. For instance, using AdWords, one can test the expected traffic that the chosen keywords will generate. If the keywords are relevant, used by successful competitors, and show a high traffic yield AdWords, they are good enough to be used!

What are the factors for a successful SEO campaign?

While keywords hold great importance, they are not the only important factor for a successful campaign. There are a number of other things that are also highly critical for SEO success. These include titles, links, subheadings, headings, originality of the content, videos, images, and the audience. It is also crucial to remember that a single factor will not result in a successful SEO strategy. Rather, SEO success depends on all of these factors, and on the content in its entirety.

In case all of the above-mentioned factors are taken into account, the likelihood of generating a massive amount of traffic from search engines would increase!
