How Small Business Owners Can Work More Productively

Being productive at work can be tricky, especially if you are running a small business. There are several things that you need to be on top of everyday, and it can be hard to make sure you are doing the most you can at work. Luckily, there are several things that you can implement in the workplace, so that you and your staff can work hard each day and get everything done on time.

Do the hardest tasks first

In order to work more productively in the workplace, a lot of people like to ‘eat the frog’ early in the morning. This means that you complete your hardest and longest task first, so that you get it out of the way quicker, and you have more time to do other things that are less important throughout the day. The term originally comes from Mark Twain, but it has been repurposed as a self help and productivity mantra, because it motivates business owners and entrepreneurs to accomplish harder tasks first, rather than putting them off until later.

Make use of your whole team

If you are the owner of a small business and you have a few people that work for you, delegating tasks that you do not need to do yourself is very important. This does not mean letting staff members do things that you should be doing yourself, but letting others complete smaller, more menial tasks that are involved with the running of the business can really help you. It can be hard to let other members of your team look after important parts of your business, but you have to understand that you won’t be able to control everything. Doing this will allow you to have more time to focus on other tasks that are more important and that require more attention, so you need to work with others to get everything done.

Utilize your smartphone

Because your smartphone is something that most people have with them all day every day, it is easy to see why people are using it to improve their business and work more effectively. A lot of people use their smartphones as an organiser, because there are several apps available that allow you to schedule meetings, plan events or help you remember deadlines, so you will never forget something important. Phones are also a tool that most people use for communication, so having a device that connects you to clients and staff at all times is something that you need to utilize. Also, more and more people are using their smartphones for payments and financial transactions, with more than 40 percent of financial transactions being performed on a smartphone, as per OPPO smartphone statistics. So whether you are after a phone something simple, that will remind you when you have your next meeting, or you are after something that offers more special features like a quality camera or 5G technology, there are smartphones available to suit you.

Regularly take breaks

You may think that this would not help you be more productive at work, but taking breaks in the correct way can really help to boost productivity in the workplace. Even a 5 minute break after a large block of consistent work can be beneficial to all workers, no matter what they are doing. This is because it allows you to readjust your focus and refresh your mind to continue on with the task at hand. A tried and true method that a lot of students and business professionals use when they are working on an important task is the Pomodoro technique. This involves working solidly for 25 minutes and then taking a 5 minute break to step away from the work and come back feeling refreshed and ready to go. This technique will also allow you to work for longer without feeling burnt-out or ready to call it a day, so you will have more time to get the job done.

Being as productive as you can be at work is very important, so ensuring that you are doing everything that you can to help yourself and your staff to be more productive at work is crucial. The key is to try and identify what strategies are working and what isn’t working before you make any big changes to the running of your business. If you do this, then you can put more time and energy into fixing things that don’t work, so that you won’t encounter any issues further down the road.
