Addressing a Property Council of Australia lunch today, Local Government Minister David Crisafulli announced the Acting Premier Jeff Seeney will recommend the declaration of the Maroochydore City Centre PDA today. “The declaration of a PDA at Maroochydore will provide an opportunity to reinvigorate the region through top quality residential, commercial, retail and mixed use development that will ultimately establish the area as the city centre,” Mr Crisafulli said. “The Maroochydore PDA is an example of the Newman Government working with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to boost the economic development of the Sunshine Coast region. “It will reinforce the area as a strong community hub, boost tourism and local business and create more jobs for Queenslanders.” Mr Crisafulli said the site was identified by the council and Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) and would be declared under the new Economic Development Act 2012. “EDQ and council will now prepare a development scheme for the area which will guide future development,” he said. “It’s important we now involve the community but it’s also important we get on with making this a reality.” The proposed PDA is 60 hectares of government-owned land located in the centre of Maroochydore and includes the Horton Park Golf Club site. Mr Crisafulli also used his visit to discuss his support for council’s economic development strategy. “I’m full of admiration for the council identifying the need for leadership and diversity in the job force for workers. “This strategy is a map to prosperity and something every council needs to move their communities forward.”Brisbane 9 July 2013. A proposed priority development area (PDA) has been announced in Maroochydore setting the scene for the site to become the regional business, community services and employment focus for the Sunshine Coast.
