WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) and Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) today announced the speaker line-up at the joint Town Hall Meeting on Diversity, scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the New York Marriott Marquis.

“A Look Toward Advancement: Multi-ethnic Employment in the Communications Industry”

The forum will address the latest findings of the joint NAMIC/WICT workforce diversity survey that will form the foundation for NAMIC's AIM Survey and WICT's PAR Initiative. These two biennial reports benchmark data vital to the advancement of gender and ethnic diversity in the cable industry. The survey was underwritten and is supported by the Walter Kaitz Foundation. Panelists participating in the Town Hall Meeting will use the survey executive findings to discuss and consider best practices gleaned from the results.

The Town Hall Meeting is part of Diversity Week, kicking off on Monday, October 7, with the 2013 WICT Leadership Conference, followed by the 27th Annual NAMIC Conference and concluding on Wednesday evening, October 9, with the 30th Annual Walter Kaitz Foundation Fundraising Dinner, along with other events held by cable industry organizations.

“NAMIC and WICT continue to benefit by partnering on this critical research, which we share with the industry as part of our collective mission to strengthen diversity,” said Maria E. Brennan, CAE,President & CEO of WICT. “We are proud to have this distinguished group of thought leaders help us better understand how these results impact their businesses.”

Added Alicin Williamson, Interim NAMIC Head, “Data is an essential component in making informed decisions about enhancing diversity. “We appreciate having the highest levels of industry leadership engaged in a dialogue about the survey results.”

NAMIC and WICT engaged Mercer, a leading global consultant on human capital issues, to conduct the joint survey. The survey will benchmark data vital to the advancement of gender and ethnic diversity in the cable telecommunications industry and, for the first time, will utilize diversity data that takes into account geographical distinctions. Data collection was facilitated over an eight-week activation period in the spring of 2013, with Mercer independently managing the development of customized data reports for each association.

Launched in 1999, the NAMIC employment survey, formerly entitled, “A Look Toward Advancement: Multi-ethnic Employment in the Communications Industry,” provided a baseline of statistics and perceptions about the state of multi-ethnic diversity in the cable telecommunications industry. This newest iteration of the NAMIC employment survey, now called the NAMIC AIM (Advancement Investment Measurement), provides rich data utilized by companies to support goals for sustaining a robust pipeline of multi-ethnic talent.

Since 2003, the WICT PAR Initiative has measured the status of women employees in the cable industry based on three criteria: Pay Equity, Advancement Opportunities and Resources for Work/Life Support. Combined with a comprehensive advocacy program, PAR helps companies set goals, institutionalize practices, measure progress and achieve results. The PAR Initiative continues to grow more valuable as a resource for measuring and supporting the advancement of women in the cable and telecommunications industry. It is supported by WICT’s 19 chapters nationwide and the industry at large.
