  • Cedar Woods Properties Limited announced as preferred proponent for Stage 1 of Western Edge
  • Stage 1 development approvals to be progressed

The State Government today announced Cedar Woods Properties Limited had been chosen as LandCorp’s preferred proponent to design the first stage of South Hedland’s Western Edge master planned community.

Cedar Woods will secure development planning and statutory approvals and a detailed engineering design for stage one, which includes the creation of over 600 lots or 850 homes.

Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the project was expected to house more than 5,000 people.

Mr Grylls said once completed, the Western Edge development would transform South Hedland and help secure future land supply in the town.

“Western Edge will provide more housing options for the community, addressing current demand and helping attract people to the region permanently,” he said.

“The 226ha development is set to deliver up to 2,280 residential dwellings in a variety of land sizes and configurations.”

The Minister said the Western Edge development, part of the State Government’s $1billion Pilbara Cities initiative, would activate under-utilised land on the edge of the town centre.

Mr Grylls said the potential end value of the project was $1.5billion, based on the value of completed dwellings.

“This project takes a significant step towards the vision of developing Port Hedland into a city of 50,000 people,” he said.

The Minister said Western Edge would also help to boost small businesses and stimulate the local economy as more people settled permanently in the area.

Mr Grylls said detailed preliminary design and feasibility would now be undertaken ahead of a formal decision on progression of the project. For further information visit
