Skateboard and BMX Freestyle action in the Ultra Bowl, Voodoo Jam BMX Flatland,
Van Doren Invitational Women’s Skateboarding, and more!

The past week was packed with hours of action in BMX and Skateboarding; here’s a sampling of a few of the tastier morsels.

UCI and BMX Freestyle Park World Cup

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is pleased to announce the integration of BMX Freestyle Park as a new UCI cycling discipline via the launch of the UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup.

The UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup will launch  in 2016 as an integral component of the FISE World Series, the International Festival of Extreme Sports. It will include a minimum of three rounds (four from the following year) which will take place between February and December and will be a springboard for the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships envisaged for 2017.

There are plans for the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships to include BMX Freestyle Park, mountain bike cross-country Eliminator (XCE), and trials. To achieve its development goals, the UCI partnered with Hurricane Action Sports Company, which has been organizing the FISE World Series for nearly 20 years.

Hervé André-Benoit, Hurricane Action Sports Company Chief Executive Officer stated:  “Our partnership is based on shared values and respects the discipline the way FISE has represented it for the past 20 years. Our collaboration will help accelerate the development of freestyle disciplines and we are proud to contribute, together with the UCI, to this new step forward for BMX.”

BMX Freestyle includes five specialties: Park, Street, Vert, Dirt Jump and Flat. It is the Park

speciality that will be integrated into the UCI.

Video Caught on the Web

The whole Ultra Bowl- Malmö event of course reminded me of Pontus Alv, one of the originators of Ultra Bowl, denizen of Swedish skateboarding and filmmaker. Alv has an impressive oeuvre of visual skate documentation, and it’s hard to pick a favorite, but this week I revisited last year’s Converse Cons Polar Skate Co video, Manhattan Days and had to share it. The team, which includes David Stenström, Jerome Campbell, Dane Brady, Aaron Herrington, Kevin Rodrigues, and Alv, push around Manhattan with a couple of ramps, a grocery cart, and endless skills and creativity.

Stay stoked!
