Wide Flange: Wide flange is another type of I-shaped beam commonly known as W-Beam and most popular in residential construction.


Channels: Channel beams have a cross-section shaped like a "C" and are sometimes called Sloped Three Flange because that is the shape of the bottom and top areas of the beam. Of all the different types of steel beams, channels are the only ones with low strength and weight capacity. Hence they are often used in light construction work since they can only support lighter loads.
