Australia’s Most Exciting Day Treks

If you love the great outdoors and a trek through beautiful landscapes is one of the best ways that you could think of spending your time, you will love experiencing Australia in all its glory. It’s the place where you can get in your campervan hire, start it up, and any direction you turn to will bring you to beautiful natural locations.

While there are many places where you can go hiking, if you’re an adventure fanatic, you may be searching for the most exciting ones. To help you in your planning, the following Australian destinations will be sure to get your heart pumping and give you that the adrenaline you’ve been looking for.

Heart-Pumping Day Treks

Pack those hiking boots and get in your motorhome. Whether you are traveling alone, with friends, or with your children, each place is uniquely special and will give you a glimpse of the wild beauty of Australia. These are the destinations that you need to see while “down under:”

  • * Hike up Mt. Gower: If you want to enjoy unique views and explore an area that isn’t as well-known as other areas, head on over to Lord Howe Island. While it is a favorite spot for vacationers looking for a place to chill on the beach, for those who want a day trek * that will get their blood pumping, Mt. Gower is ideal. In fact, while you wouldn’t expect this from a day trek, there is even an area where you have to wear helmets and hold on to ropes. If you’re up for a day tour that may be a bit scary (in a good way) and where you absolutely need a guide, this is the day trek for you.

  • * Rim Walk at Kings Canyon: This is yet another trek that while doable for many still requires a good level of fitness and thirst for adventure. It is a relatively short hike (in comparison to day hikes, for example) at 6 km yet because it is on the higher side of Kings Canyon, you can imagine that it will be a challenging experience for the faint hearted. It starts out much steeper than you would imagine a day trek starting out which means that you want to be careful to pace yourself to ensure that you reach the top. There, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the red cliffs beyond.

  • * Hike Wineglass Bay on over to Hazards Bay: While this walk may not be as long as some other ones, it truly will reward you with exciting views of the ocean below. While it is a relatively short-day hike at only a couple hours, you can rest assured that this hike in the area of Wineglass Bay (in Tasmania) will be worth it.

  • * Visit Bluff Knoll: If you want to visit one of the highest peaks in the western side of Australia, Bluff Knoll is an ideal destination for a day trek in the Stirling Range National Park. The hike spans over a 6 kilometre trail that will take you to a place where you will want to be sure to have your camera ready. Views of mountains beyond, the lush bush below, and amazing skies above will make you forget the effort spent to get there.

  • * Mount Kosciuszko: While not the most challenging of mountain climbs, if what you want is a mountain experience minus the long multiple-day treks, this is an ideal location for you. You can climb up and go back down walking or if you happen to be a bit tired after your trek, take a chair lift down.

  • * Binna Burra: This day trek is actually done in an area that can be a multiple day experience. If you’re short on time, the hike from Binna Burra to the Green Mountain area is a satisfying trek that will provide you with beautiful views, interesting terrain in the middle of a rainforest, and near the Tweed Valley. It’s a good hike that can take you around 6-7 hours to complete but it isn’t as demanding as climbing a mountain. For those who want to enjoy the beauty of some of Australia’s most unique and inviting landscapes, this is a good spot for you.

The above treks are just some of the exciting and adventurous ones to be found in Australia. Many of them can be done with children, but keep in mind to do your research beforehand and keep a close eye on your kids while hiking.

If you don’t have enough time on your trip in a campervan hire to complete multiple day treks, the above destinations will reward you with breathtaking views and memorable experiences that will hold you over until the day that you can fully take on the Australian outback. Happy hiking and enjoy your adventures!
