Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion leaves today on a 10-day mission to advance investment from and partnerships with three of Western Australia’s biggest trading partners.

Mr Marmion will lead a senior WA resources industry delegation in meetings with corporate and government leaders in Singapore, South Korea and China.

“The message will be not only is WA open for business, we’re the best place to do business and now is the time to invest when costs are moderating,” he said.

“This is an intensive trade mission at an important time in Western Australia’s business and resources industry cycle.”

The Minister will address the Asia Mining Congress in Singapore, before attending the third annual WA Korea Energy and Resources (WAKER) Forum in South Korea.

Mr Marmion will also tour the Prelude project, the vast floating liquefied natural gas processing ship now under construction in the Samsung shipyards at the Korean port of Geoje.

“Prelude will be very exciting - seeing what many in the industry believe is the future of LNG,” he said.

“Understanding its potential will help guarantee WA maximises the benefits from servicing and supporting this new type of gas processing.”

The visit to China will include meetings on co-operation between China and WA in the fields of geology and low-emission technology.

The Minister will also address key business and government figures in Shandong Province, the source of extensive investment in WA’s gold, coal, iron ore, nickel, alumina and uranium sectors.

“The emphasis is on building on trusted personal partnerships, our shared future and expanding our multi-billion dollar trade links, particularly in mining, petroleum and technology,” Mr Marmion said.
