Save Money While Road Tripping Auckland

New Zealand is truly an amazing place to visit and anyone who likes traveling and nature will enjoy visiting beautiful destinations in a campervan hire, yet one thing to keep in mind is that New Zealand is not the cheapest country around.

With that being said, you can definitely enjoy a road trip in Auckland without spending your life’s savings. It’s easy to do and we’ll tell you how.

Follow these five simple tips:

Make your own food.

While there are countries where eating out can be very cheap-and a little bit dangerous as well-New Zealand is not one of them. To avoid spending the money you have set aside for adventure and fun on meals, you will want to shop at the supermarket for food that you can prepare on the road. Of course, eating out every now and then is a good idea, but avoid resorting to it for your every meal. Even when you do eat out, you can always look for great meals at lower prices.

Visit free nature.

New Zealand is known for its beautiful landscapes and fascinating destinations for adventure. While some of these places are full of tourists and will cost you an arm and a leg, there are plenty of other places to visit-for free. While you may want to go ahead and splurge on a hike to Sutherland Falls or Fox Glacier, plan other activities where you can still admire the beauty of New Zealand without even spending a dime.

Camp in nature.

Imagine being under the stars as you hear the sounds of wildlife nearby, while visiting some of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. Also, while you are at it, imagine spending a fraction of what you would spend on a hotel room or a campervan campground. Even if you are traveling in a campervan, planning some nights of sleeping under the stars could save you money. It’s much more affordable than hotels or hooking up your campervan.

Use reward cards or vouchers.

Whether you are road tripping in a campervan or a car, you will have to fill up on petrol. Petrol can be one of the highest expenses on your trip, so to help take off a few dollars, look for vouchers for petrol in your receipts or invest in a petrol reward card before setting out. While it may not seem like much, it will definitely save you a few bucks that can be better spent towards adventure.

Forget tipping. This one is a bit difficult to swallow if you are from the U.S where tipping is a must, but in New Zealand it isn’t a part of the culture. Service industry employees get paid well for their work so you don’t have to worry if you don’t leave a whopping 20% as you would in the U.S. Don’t worry, you won’t be getting the stink eye. If you feel bad for not leaving an extra, a small percentage of your bill is more than enough.
