Sydney 27 April 2015. No longer is cyberspace a separate environment. It has become completely pervasive and we rely on it to do virtually everything in our daily lives.

It is for this reason that effective cyber security is necessary for Australians; especially when playing Royal Vegas online pokies, performing financial transaction, accessing information, telecommunications, maintaining the road systems, and more. In this, the digital age, the Australian economy is becoming more and more reliant on the internet for continued growth, therefore, strong cyber security is essential for both national and economic security.

It is becoming routine for cyber criminals to target Australian citizens and businesses to steal information that they can use to turn a profit. In fact, just a couple of years ago, it’s estimated that the global cost of insidious cyber activity ranged between $365 billion and $1.2 trillion Australian dollars.

This is a staggering amount of money. Therefore, it is essential that we develop a response that is as agile and powerful as the threats that cyber criminals pose. Thankfully, the establishment of the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), is proving to play a vital role in our fight against online criminals.

It represents a foundational shift in the way that government is attempting to help business with their cyber security issues. This center was developed for experts to share information and develop solutions that will help defeat cyber criminals. For example, they are developing products that will benefit industries that are essential to national security. In other words, it is providing an easier way for the government and industry to work and engage with one another.

One of the biggest advantages of taking this step forward in Australian Cyber Security is that this partnership will come together to develop relevant threat information that can be used by the private sector to keep their data safe.

The Australian Government considers cyber security to be of great national and economic importance. Therefore, they are developing resilient systems that will help to foster confidence in their economy both in Australia and abroad.

The Australian Cyber Security Centre allows them to make an evolutionary step forward to help reach that goal.
